Black and White - Pervez Photography

These are some black and white photos I've taken, from my travels through Turkey, Guatemala, China, Europe, and the United States. While I really enjoy color in my photos, I learned photography with black and white film, and it holds a special place for me. Also, there is a unique sense of drama in black and white with shadows and contrasts that you just can't get from color. It creates a sense of mystery as well.

On Memorial Day weekend, I happened to be down by the Lincoln Memorial. A runner stopped to sit down and enjoy the peaceful view of the Reflecting Pond and the Washington Monument, along with the ducks swimming. These two little girls, who she definitely didn't know, decided they wanted to sit with her and watch the ducks, too. Their mother asked them to not bother the woman, but she said it was fine. The girls sat down with her, and they just talked, as if they were old friends or family. One of my favorite parts of cities is this: the possibility of comfortably interacting with a complete stranger. Granted, sometimes the opposite happens, but when an organic situation like this one develops, its pretty enjoyable to partake in. In this case, there were kids and ducks, so it had that going for it, too!
