Black and White - Pervez Photography

These are some black and white photos I've taken, from my travels through Turkey, Guatemala, China, Europe, and the United States. While I really enjoy color in my photos, I learned photography with black and white film, and it holds a special place for me. Also, there is a unique sense of drama in black and white with shadows and contrasts that you just can't get from color. It creates a sense of mystery as well.

Waking through Princeton University with my fiancee on a chilly fall day, we came across a group of ballerinas warming up outside. Despite the cold weather, they decided to follow through with their outdoor practice. After asking them permission, I waited for this shot for a few minutes as the ballerina warmed up. It makes no sense for a ballerina to be practicing outdoors in cold weather with a historic university building behind her, but that contrast is why I love this shot. It shows an artist at work, focused on her craft, with no concern about her surroundings.
