Black and White - Pervez Photography

These are some black and white photos I've taken, from my travels through Turkey, Guatemala, China, Europe, and the United States. While I really enjoy color in my photos, I learned photography with black and white film, and it holds a special place for me. Also, there is a unique sense of drama in black and white with shadows and contrasts that you just can't get from color. It creates a sense of mystery as well.

While walking around the French Quarter in New Orleans (I was there for a close friend's wedding), I happened to walk into this quiet home/museum. Considering how crowded and loud everything was right by, this place stood out for the near-silence in it. Not far from the entrance, there was this beautiful stairway. It had been raining earlier, but I waited a few moments and happened to catch a little light coming through. This place felt so New Orleans - the shadows seem to hide stories from the building's past, and the entire place was both beautiful and haunting.
